Join Nobel Women’s Initiative and The MATCH International Women’s Fund and call on Canada’s #FeministPM to increase aid for grassroots women’s organizations!
The Challenge: Women around the world are leading change at the grassroots level. But did you know that only 0.03% of Canada’s aid actually gets into their hands? That’s a crumb!
The Opportunity: The truth is, Canada can only be a global leader if we are willing to invest in the women who are leading change on the ground. At this unique moment in time–with a feminist Prime Minister, a woman leading Foreign Affairs, and a woman as the Minister of International Development–Canada must show global leadership–standing with women & girls around the globe.
The Solution: A dedicated and innovative funding mechanism that channels $2.2 billion directly into the hands of women at the grassroots level over the next ten years is the solution.
How and when to spread the word:

We can only call ourselves global leaders when we boldly invest in women at local level. Dear Friends,
I recently learned that, of all of Canada’s aid, only 0.03% actually makes it into the hands of women & girls at the grassroots level. I’m certain that Canada can do better. I’m reaching out to you as a person who also cares deeply about the solutions driven by women at the grassroots. We know that women are leaders and changemakers; they just need the resources to get their ideas off the ground.
Please help me ensure that Canada demonstrates global leadership by telling our government leaders that you support a dedicated funding mechanism that puts $2.2 billion directly into the hands of women & girls at the local level. Imagine what women & girls could do with support like that!
There’s no better time than right now to act on behalf of women & girls around the globe. Just this month, the reinstatement of the Global Gag Rule eliminated $600m of funding for women’s sexual and reproductive health. This is but one example of what is at stake.
Canada has an opportunity to emerge as a leader: we have a feminist Prime Minister, a woman at the helm of foreign affairs and a woman as the Minister of International Development. Please engage these leaders by encouraging your networks to get involved. The attached toolkit has lots of ideas for engagement and some fabulous graphics that can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Thank you for helping me spread the word. Budget deliberations are happening as we speak, and there is still time to shape the decisions made by our representatives.
Warmly,
