Protect Honduran Human Rights Defender Dina Meza
Over recent weeks Honduran journalist and human rights defender Dina Meza has faced escalating threats of physical and sexual violence. Human rights groups believe the harassment is due to Meza’s reporting on corruption and impunity in Honduras.
The targeting of Meza follows the pattern of persecution of journalists by the Honduran government. The National Commissioner for Human Rights estimates that 32 journalists and 70 lawyers have been killed since January 2010.
Write to the Honduran Minister of the Interior now to urge the government to investigate all instances of violent threats and intimidation directed at human rights defenders. Call on the government to guarantee the protection of human rights defenders so that journalists like Dina Meza can continue their essential work.
