The International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict is traveling to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from January 21st – 28th. The Campaign, chaired by Nobel Laureates Jody Williams, Leymah Gbowee, Mairead Maguire, and Shirin Ebadi, will take their messages about stopping rape and gender violence in conflict to the 20th Summit of the African Union (AU).
The Campaign is sponsoring activists from Sudan, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to join campaign advisory committee members in Addis for trainings and advocacy meetings during the AU Summit.
State security forces and armed groups in Africa employ sexual violence as a strategic weapon used to destroy people and communities. The Campaign will be spotlighting women’s voices as they call for leadership to stop rape at the African Union Summit, and call on policymakers and the international community for immediate and effective responses to assist survivors.
