Women and Children at High Risk in Pakistan Flooding

Heavy monsoon rains have caused untold destruction in Pakistan. With their homes and villages washed away, millions now face the possibility of disease, food shortages, loss of privacy and security. Women and children in flooded areas are in need of special care and protection, as well as immediate relief.
The number of people affected by the flooding is estimated to surpass the number affected in the last three “mega disasters” combined – the 2004 Indian ocean Tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake. An estimated 1, 600 are dead and 13 million have been made vulnerable by the disaster.
